Alright, let’s get right into it, starting with..
Starting out with one of the most exhausting
things that all INFJs experience from time to
time, anything left unsolved. For this personality
type who strives for balance and harmony in all
aspects of life, there’s nothing more draining
than an unresolved issue. Of course, this is
most pertinent to their own lives, especially
when it has to do with emotional connections,
work issues, or family business. However, the
INFJ’s challenge with unresolved issues also
plays a role as a result of the struggles of
their loved ones. This counselor type is always
trying to mitigate the problems of those they
love by listening and offering solutions. When
those solutions don’t work, or worse, aren’t put
in place, it’s no surprise that it weighs heavily
on the INFJ’s mind. They can’t simply just drop it
from their consciousness knowing that a loved one
is suffering, not to mention their own need for
closure on the matter. A serious unresolved issue
will haunt the INFJ like a dark cloud throughout
their day, waiting to keep them up at night.
Contrary to popular belief, the INFJ personality
type isn’t considered ‘antisocial’ simply because
they don’t particularly like other humans.
Instead, this introverted personality type
avoids certain social gatherings and outings
because they know just how much energy it takes
from them. Thanks to their extroverted feeling and
sensing functions, the INFJ can’t help but absorb
every tiny detail from the world around them at
any given time. For the most part, these functions
serve to fuel some of their greatest talents of
observation, calculation and future-projecting.
It allows them to pick up on the emotions of
others giving them the incredible ability to
read any room. However, in the common instances
that this information intake becomes too much,
the INFJ will feel fatigued in just a matter of
minutes. Despite enjoying their time with the
people around them, with their subconscious mind
going a mile a minute, sometimes it becomes all
too much. In fact, sometimes the INFJ themselves
have a difficult time relating the two instances,
Speaking of information overload, the INFJ
certain environments. Known as a highly sensitive
personality type, the INFJ can become increasingly
exhausted when faced with external stimuli that
is too much to process in the moment. While most
people would assume this exhausting stimulation
to come from environments such as loud parties
and concerts, it doesn’t have to be this drastic
in order to deplete the INFJ of their energy. In
fact, due to their extroverted sensing function
that allows them to closely pay attention to the
world around them, sometimes it’s the most simple
and unassuming triggers that affect them. Things
like open-office environments where the INFJ can’t
help but to be distracted by their surroundings,
strong smells - especially if they’re artificial
such as certain perfumes and air fresheners,
you’re probably thinking “How does the INFJ even
go about their daily business with all of these
exhausting triggers?” Well, luckily, not every
INFJ is affected by the same over stimulating
environments. Nonetheless, this is what makes
Number 4: Unrewarding or overwhelming work
INFJs are said to be some of the most loyal
employees. They’re able to not only bring a unique
perspective to certain projects, but they’re also
incredibly reliable due to their self-critical
ways. However, if there’s nothing in it for their
creative outlet, their thirst for knowledge, or
their humanitarian goals, a mind-numbing job won't
take long to eat at their energy stores (..and
soul for that matter). For the INFJ who has such
a vast imagination, their day job must be engaging
enough to pull them out of their introverted
intuitive comfort zone, and ground them into
the here-and-now. Of course, they can complete
mindless work on auto-pilot as they drift off to
dreamland, but it won’t keep them still for long.
In order for their work to not completely deplete
them of every ounce of liveliness they have, it
must tap into their extroverted sensing functions
in order to refuel their desire and consistency.
Yet, on the other side of the scale, a job that
requires all of their time can have the opposite
effect, leaving the INFJ even more exhausted.
While you may think that everyone with an ego must
enjoy a little attention every one in a while,
case. Of course, they don’t mind a little
recognition for a job well done, but when it
comes to being praised for an accomplishment,
energy. For this introverted type, it’s much
safer to be behind the curtains or on the
sidelines of such attention in order to sustain
their energy for the remainder of the day. In
the limelight that once the event is over,
it takes a few days for their nervous system to
fully recover. Even the attention that comes with
birthdays and other solo-focused celebrations
can make the INFJ feel exhausted before the
day has even begun. They become uncomfortable
with the thought of fake reactions to gifts,
ingenuine birthday wishes, and the small talk
that’s expected when someone gets sentimental.
Ask the INFJ to make a decision and you may
be waiting longer than anticipated. For this
analytical and perfectionistic type, having
to make a simple decision is quite the complex
process as they run through every possibility
and outcome in their minds. While they’re great
at problem-solving, decision-making serves to be
one of their greatest challenges, as they usually
end up with a complete observational breakdown of
why any decision is both a good or bad idea. This
ultimately leads to something called ‘decision
fatigue’. Decision fatigue is characterized by the
difficulty in making a good decision experienced
as a result of the number of decisions one needs
to take. This means that decisions become
of lesser quality depending on the number
Now, of course this mental process isn’t only
experienced by the INFJ, however, it’s fair to
say that they tend to reach their breaking point
much faster than the average person. In fact, this
personality type can reach decision fatigue after
just one challenging decision, and just about all
decisions are rather challenging for the INFJ.
So, what exactly happens to the INFJ when
the notorious burnout phase. Although burnout
is nothing new to the INFJ personality type,
ignore their requirements for R & R when life gets
hectic, this self-critical type turns a blind eye
on their dying social battery, ultimately leading
to physical, emotional and mental burnout. While
most INFJs could probably push themselves past
their learned comfort zones of just how much
interactive mingling they can handle, the clever
INFJ takes the initiative to revert back to their
notorious hermit-mode far before things get
out of hand. In other words, this head-strong
personality type could probably run on empty for
longer than most types, however, their version of
empty comes on a lot quicker and stronger. Not
only that, but once burnout is in full-swing,
it can take a long time for them to gain back
their momentum. In fact, most INFJs never fully
recover from burnout, adding another reason as
to why they’re almost always a little exhausted.
