Why Every Team Needs An Infj

Why Every Team Needs An Infj explores key ideas related to psychology, presented clearly and practically.

Whether we’re talking about school projects,

sports competitions, or navigating through

life in general, there’s something about having

the INFJ personality type around that brings

a positive and efficient atmosphere. With their

unique approach and understanding, they’re able

to bring a specific angle to most things, but why

else is it worth it to have the INFJ on your team?

Welcome or welcome back PSYCH-Os! Before we get

Alright, let’s get right into it, starting with..

enough care to be a sorry loser. And while

there’s a competitive bone in every INFJ’s

body that encourages them that drives them

the main traits of a positively competitive

person is their ability to remain calm in

times of conflict and unexpected obstacles,

which seems to be one of the calm and collected

INFJ’s best traits. Yet, aside from this,

their competitiveness is especially apparent

which may be rooted in their innate efforts

to please others and avoid disappointments.

The INFJ’s strong suit lies within challenges

or competitions that require brain-power and

problem solving rather than physical matters.

INFJs love a good challenge that calls on their

ability to combine creative brainstorming and

interpreting other’s ideas. Although they can

and most likely will be happy for the winning

team, regardless of if it’s their own or not,

they can’t help but to apply their perfectionistic

social settings, especially when it comes

to debate, however, that’s not the case when

their name is attached to the final result.

INFJs will choose the easy route of keeping

quiet and avoiding confrontation when they can,

but when it’s necessary for their own success,

this personality type actually has the ability

to be unapologetically veracious. Matching their

critical analysis of everything around them, INFJs

usually end up keeping a lot of their thoughts

to themselves. Yet, if they see a team project

heading in the wrong direction, or they notice

an obvious flaw in a team-members' game-plan,

they’ll certainly say something. Luckily,

they don’t just criticize for the sake of it,

but instead, try their best to explain their

viewpoint. And while some team members may resent

them for it in the moment, they’ll end up thanking

them in the long run when the INFJ’s elaborate and

carefully executed plan benefits the entire team.

One thing about the reserved INFJ personality

type is that they tend to feel easily bonded

with people who they’re stuck to overcome

friendship that evolved due to similar life

struggles, a long term partner who they’ve

grown closer with through occasional conflict,

or team members they’re challenged to work with

in order to achieve something great. There’s

something about problem solving with another

that allows the INFJ the necessary information

about a person that results in them letting

their guard down. While they may still take

a back-seat approach to their input in fear

of domineering and pushing their passionate

view points, the last thing they want to do

is come off as unapproachable to their team

members. In fact, if the INFJ were to think

of the friends they’ve made over the years,

it’s most likely people they’ve had to overcome

similar challenges with. Be it a coworker who

they’ve had to overcome work challenges with,

a school mate who understood the challenges of

their lessons, or a family member that they’ve

shared similar toxic environments with, their

personability thrives in these types of scenarios.

If there’s one thing the INFJ team member won’t

advocate for, it’s any suggestion that involves

cutting corners or cheating. Despite the fact

that they’ve probably already thought of every

possible way one could skimp out seemingly

unnecessary steps, INFJs can’t help but to do

things the right way. Of course, their creative

ability allows them to constantly think of ways

idea of dishonesty. As a matter of fact, most

INFJs would choose losing fairly over winning

unfairly in a heartbeat, and they encourage this

mentality to their teammates as well. Luckily,

with the combination of their highly analytical

skills and this moral high ground that the INFJ

consistently runs on, they’re able to efficiently

pick up on opposing team’s strategies. So,

while the INFJ may not encourage the fastest

Speaking of the INFJ’s ability to think of

the most efficient ways of working smarter,

not harder, this introverted intuitive type brings

incomparable vision to any team they become a

part of. In fact, one of the major defining

characteristics of the INFJ is their impressive

scope of vision. With the tendency to think big

and long term, they’re continuously calculating

other’s input in order to expand or improve

the scope of their team member’s propositions.

They’re known for their birds-eye-view perspective

that ultimately gives them a unique advantage of

overlooking all angles and potential outcomes of

every possible route being suggested. They don’t

override other’s ideas through egotistical

means, but instead, efficiently listens and

considers other’s ideas in order for them to

later connect the dots and form a collective

vision. No matter the team-setting or goal, the

INFJ’s perception of the world adds a layer of

encouragement to their teammates to be more bold

and ambitious due to their noticeable perspective

of infinite possibility. This allows even those

who aren’t really interested to be inspired by

the INFJ’s subtle enthusiasm, awakening the

hesitant idealist that lies within everyone.

Number 6: Their research skills are unmatched

This knowledge-thirsty personality type remains

persistently curious about the world around them.

They’re in a constant pursuit of new information,

improved innovation, and self-improvement

that ultimately makes them the knowledgeable

high-achiever they are. Yet, when it comes to the

things they're most recently passionate about,

this need for a deeper understanding can take

on a whole new level of intensity. When passion

comes into play, it’s not uncommon for the INFJ

to resort to shutting out the world in order

to become completely enthralled in the topic.

Their research skills become their main tactic in

learning as much about the topic at hand in order

to show up to their team as informed and efficient

as possible. As a matter of fact, there’s nothing

the INFJ enjoys more than deep-diving into a

specific topic, especially if it will benefit

more than just themselves. Rooted in this

passion, they’ll happily explore, investigate

and examine every relevant piece of information to

eventually present an easy-to-understand synopsis

of information to their teammates. Like we said

before, INFJs are most efficient when it comes

to brain-power competitions and challenges because

they are already naturally apt to mental training.

Number 7: They never dodge accountability

As we mentioned before, INFJs value honesty far

beyond their need to win or to be right. Although

the INFJ brings incredible strengths to any team

due to their keen brainstorming skills, it doesn’t

mean there aren’t flaws in their suggestions

at times. No matter how much ruminating and

experimentation they do, there are always times

that their calculations are off. Despite the

grueling retaliation that may have been the reason

their team went down, taking accountability is

a must for the INFJ who is always looking

for self-improvement. There’s nothing more

valued than their need to build a strong sense of

trust and reliability within their connections,

and that includes their relationships with their

fellow team members. While falling short of their

vision may seem like it would create a perspective

of incompetence in the eyes of their teammates,

the INFJ’s ability to recognize their flaws

actually results in the opposite effect. This

approach not only allows for their fellow team

members to understand that making mistakes is

completely accepted especially if the INFJ is

in a leadership position, but it also allows

for the INFJ to collectively analyze with their

team to avoid similar mistakes in the future.
