introverted intuition, extroverted feeling,
introverted thinking, and extroverted sensing, the
INFJ requires a unique balance of their 7 major
needs in order to feel most like themselves.
While these needs may seem a little specific,
they’re easy to come by when the INFJ simply

Experiencing the world through introverted
intuition as their main function, the INFJ
personality type longs to understand the inner
and outer workings of the world around them. They
require continuous learning as one of their most
important needs in life, which doesn’t really come
as a surprise considering their extreme curiosity.
In fact, the INFJ was wired to effectively
observe and absorb information through their
outer surroundings in order to internally analyze
it from all angles. The even cooler thing is
that this all usually happens subconsciously,
allowing the INFJ to come up with some of the
most elaborate conclusions without really knowing
how they’ve done it. But.. none of this happens if
the INFJ is cut off from new learning materials.
With the real world and natural human interaction
as their most preferred source of learning, this
curious type can benefit from things like travel,
occasional social events, a work environment
that encourages learning, and a relationship
where both parties are open to learning and
growing together. The ironic thing is that
most INFJs can pour hours of research into
a subject to only move onto something newer
and more interesting before boredom sets in;
making learning material crucial at all times.
to the INFJs listening, because independence
is something every INFJ is familiar with.
Most people with this rare personality type have
a strong desire to accomplish and create on their
own terms - preferring to be their own bosses in
life. Yet, it’s not like INFJs necessarily chose
to prefer to be self-reliant, in fact, their
introverted thinking function is strongly to
blame. With introverted thinking as their tertiary
function, it encourages the INFJ to be confident
in their logical conclusions while allowing them
to efficiently come up with solutions to problems.
their independence to their full advantage,
experiences like working under a controlling boss,
or being in an overbearing relationship can take
that sense of independence away, leaving the
INFJ feeling restricted in life. Not to mention,
this intuitive type requires a great deal of
alone time which can be difficult to take when
they're tied to a demanding obligation. So, in
other words, anything that challenges this need

inner calling to help people. And while they don’t
always know exactly how they’ll make that happen
in a big way, most people with this type know
that they want to make an impact on the world
introverted intuition and extroverted feeling,
this empathetic type is automatically tuned
into the needs and emotions of others which
is why they’re known to be the peacemakers of the
world. But mediating and helping individual people
needs to know they’ve been involved or will be
involved in some sort of contribution to society,
whether that’s fundraising for a legitimate
charity, mission trips around the world, starting
a rewarding career, or anything else that utilizes
this understanding of the world and kindness.
As a matter of fact, the INFJ wants to effectively
use the impact of every small decision they make
because they know just how small acts of kindness
can ripple through humanity. Because of this,
changes - and that gift shouldn’t be ignored.
There’s something in the natural beauties
of the world that touches the heart of every
earthling.. But for the INFJ personality type,
absorbing beauty in its natural state can act as
one of the only things that truly grounds them.
With extroverted sensing as their least dominant
function, the curious INFJ is already naturally
attuned to appreciating the overlooked beauty of
the world. Hazy sunsets, still rivers, full moons,
These unexpecting natural beauties of the world
instantly take the INFJ out of their thoughts
and back into reality, and not many things have
that power over this introspective type. However,
other sensory experiences like long drives,
exercising, and generally spending time outdoors
for the INFJs mental sanity. Yet, on the other
side of things, if the INFJ finds themselves
unable to incorporate times of appreciation
they can find themselves stuck in their own heads,
easily burnt out, and seriously unhappy in life.
Independence may be important for the INFJ, but
so is the need for human connection - even for
this introverted type. Sure, most INFJs could
probably go about life on their own just fine..
always feel like there is something missing.
It’s not to say that INFJs need a grand social
life or a group of besties per se, but a romantic
relationship or a few close friends can make
all the difference in how they view themselves
and the world around them. We get it..it’s easier
said than done for this rare type that so often
feels alienated and misunderstood among other
people, but this is what makes finding that deep
connection all that more special. Most people
are content with small talk and acquaintances,
but when it comes to the INFJ it’s about feeling
a connection which goes beneath the surface.
Like a precious gem, a deep connection that
takes cultivation and time to really flourish
is all the INFJ requires to feel truly intune
with someone. And as a result, most INFJs treat
their close connections as exactly that, a
precious gem that they’ll value for life.
The “understood INFJ”.. Sounds almost like
an oxymoron, doesn’t it? Well, it’s not as
far-fetched as it may seem. In fact, INFJs don’t
necessarily need to be understood completely,
as their sense of mysteriousness and deep thinking
is something most INFJs pride on. However, every
INFJ needs to know why they do things differently
than others, as a reassurance that they’re not as
cookey or woo-woo as they may have been portrayed
to be. While the feeling of being understood can
certainly come through close human connections,
it doesn’t necessarily have to. Lucky for us,
the internet has made it much easier through
MBTI communities, blogs and channels just like
PSYCH-O psychology can help INFJs have a better
understanding of themselves. Learning things like
your MBTI personality type can ultimately
help anyone figure themselves out, granting
them the knowledge of where to apply their
strengths in life. For the INFJ specifically,
who is so familiar with feeling misunderstood,
relating to other INFJs with similar experiences
can give them a sense of belonging and an
eye-opening discovery that they’re not alone.
And maybe there’s some legitimacy behind that
when it comes to overall life satisfaction. For
the INFJ type, having a goal couldn’t be further
from some of the best advice for staying happy and
motivated in life. To say that INFJs need a goal
is an understatement, for if the INFJ has no goal,
shadow functions of indulgence and rash decision
making to get through day-to-day life. Similar to
their intuitive need for continual learning,
having a short or long term goal gives the
INFJ’s innate creativity and imagination a
focus. Rather than living life on auto-pilot,
allowing their introverted intuition to ruminate
about any given piece of information, having a
clear goal gives this imaginative intuition
a direction. And since INFJs are known for
self-improvement, with a curious goal in mind, any
INFJ can stay encouraged right to the finish line!
